African American hair to stay healty?

I had to cut my hair really short(a little above the ear) over the summer because it was damaged and it has been growing its about almost to my shoulder. How can I prevent it from breaking again and keep it healthy

keeping your hair clean and conditioned is the key to a healthy head of hair. also you should care for it when it is wet carefully so as not to break it in that weaken state.

not to much heat, and hold off on the chemical treatments. although people think that braids are good for growing it depends on the hair, braids if too tight can cause more damage that good. and ponytails that are too tight or made with rubber bands cut and break the hair.

keep it clean, invest in a silk pillowcase and a hair cap( i cant sleep in that cap so i got the pillow case) good luck.

Just do not put any more chemicals in it, do not iron your hair too often, put oil in it, and only comb it when it is wet with a leave-in condition so that the hair follicle won't break. Good luck.

Im 1/2 african american and what I do to keep it healthy is I dont wash it every day because it dries the hair out so I do it every other day. also dont straighten or curl your hair to often because it causes it to damage

Wash and condition your hair once a week with Pantene Pro V for women of color. It works really well. Also get your split ends cut often I usually get mind cut every 4-6 weeks or whenever I get a relaxer. A relaxer shouldn't damage your hair if done correctly but do limit the heat. Sitting under the salon like hair dryers are better for your hair. Moisture is the key for African American hair so grease your scalp (not your hair) after every wash.

The biggest thing I see when peoples hair break is not keeping ends clipped. Kep your ends clipped, and if you use gel, use it sparingly. Try not to use it at all if possible. If you must They have some vitamin c or e gel tablets or oil that you can add to your gel. It will be less harsh and drying out or your hair.

Some good products are Olive oil shampoo, conditioner, and perm. Try it once and you will never go back. I have been using it for over a year and it makes a big difference in my hair. it is not as harsh as the other perms are. It costs a lil more but it lasts longer also.

Also try to stay away from grease and stick to thinner oils, like extra virgin olive oil, b%26amp; b castor oil, or biosilk.. Those products work wanders.

If you can try to use the same product line of products, and don't put too many differnt things into your hair. Keep it as natural as possible. And wash it as much as your hair will permit without drying out.

Also a lot of people experience their hair drying out when they waash it everyday because they use the wrong shampoo. Shampoo can be very hard on your hair. Even cosmetologists will tell you that washing your hair often may break it. I and mixed and I wash my hair everyday with oilve oil shapoo and conditioner. Now, if I use other shampoos my hair will dry, but I have found that olive oil shapoo moisturizes your hair while cleaning it. And make sure to condition your hair whenever you wash it. When you use that olive oil conditioner, you will see what I amm talking about. Try it for 2-3 days. That is the olive oil shampoo and conditioner. You will see for yourself what I am talking about. i wish I could post a picture of my hair. it is full of body, is not weighed down or anything. I've been doing my own hair since I was younger. I won't even let an ehtnic person do my hair anymore because thay use gel most of the time which is bad for your hair. If you have anymore questions, email. I hope I covered everything.

Also, let your hair air dry as much as possible. Don't use heat as much as possible. And wrap your hair, and wrap it up at night. Even if it is short.
