If you look at the cross section of hair for different races you'll notice a difference. These are more of a "guide" than a "rule," as there can be significant overlap between races.

African have a flat cross section, caucasians have an oval cross section, and asians have a circular cross section.

The difference in cross section, in addition to the level of scalp oil will dictate how easy the hair is to take care of.

God made hair all different ways. That particular hair type doesn't have it's own oil like softer hair. There are many products to take care of that hair type. It's not only found on darker pigmented individuals either.

Our texture is way more course and usaully thick even if it is short. It all comes from our genetic lineage from way back when. The hot sun in Africa is sooo instense, that if we had delicate hair like other races, it wouldn't be able to withstand the heat and sun. That is why most Africans have little to no hair. Hispanics and Italians can also have hair like us, it just depends on their background. Did you know that on average 39% of the genetic makeup of Italians is African DNA? TRUE

It's not hard to take care of it's just we have different maintenance procedures. And not all African American hair is the same either, just like for other races, our hair type and texture can vary from person to person.
