African American Hair Help Please??

I have been perm free for over a year, but I recently started using a ceramic iron and blow-drying once a week. My hair has been thinning and breaking off because of this. I have long thick hair and if i don't do this it will look crazy. I was considering getting a perm again to give it a break from heat but that will have defeated the whole purpose...what should I do? An intense conditioning treatment? I really wanted my hair to be natural and i'm still growing it out...

I`m 100% natural now. When my hair was relaxed it started to look like straw because i stop perming my hair for 11 months,i had so many tangles and i had to take the time to wash my hair,i press my hair because i couldn`t take it anymore and my hair smell like it was burning,my hair became healthy again when i cut off my relaxed ends,my hair is more managleble now so i think it would be a bad idea to perm your hair its going to continue to break even though you will perm your hair when your suppose to,it would be good if you cut your relaxed ends off and get good hair treatments. You can have many hair styles with natural hair, its better than worrying about the time you have to perm your hair for the rest of your life.

well, there are some hair straighteners in stores for African American people. You should try that it would be better for your hair. So yeah. Try that and try some African American moisturizers.

The iron may be to hot for your hair try using the lower heat, if it has one. You are right about the perm breaking your hair.Deep conditioners will help, also try a using hair protecting spray or lotion before use the iron Good luck...hair Bob

my suggestion to you would be to just get a trim..chances are you can stop the breakage if you cut the dead ends off..right now my hair is breaking alot too..the only thing that seems to help is cutting it....that doesn't mean a huge chop..i am talking about 1/4 of an inch..believe me it makes a difference...then you might want to get to get some nexxus emergencee..its a protein based cuticle sealer..you put it on your hair prior to shampooing..it closes the cuticle after putting protein back into your hair...this works right away and automatically my hair stops breaking and falling out...don't perm you hair again...that defeats your journey to be natural again..you worked so hard don't give up now...you can still use your blowdryer and ceramic iron..you just need a trim and you need to get yourself a really nice leave in spray prior to any heat element being applied to your hair....something that is not an over the counter product...then always spray prior to using heat on your head...gnc sells jojoba oil pure..this is really good for your hair...its like 8 dollars or so i just saw it the other day..i am going to get some for my daugher...for a deep condition..i would suggest finding yourself Joico kpak products...they have great shampoos and conditioners and something called the reconstructor..it has been scientfically proven to actually enter the cuticle and penetrate and repair the damaged hair...this stuff really works well

Its all about styling. You went natural so embrace the texture in your hair. I suggest leaving the straightening for occasional use, and go for textured styles.
