Why is african american hair looked down upon and any other type of hair is treasured?

I have always wondered why thick hair isn't as desired as thin hair. Is this just me or is this true?

I have had African American friends tell me that managing their hair is a full time job and have resorted to straightening or very short hair.

I think it has more to do with our fast paced lives than being looked down upon.

Straight thin hair is just easier to manage.

I'm sorry you feel this way, maybe your perception of it is not accurate.

I live in California and maybe we are just more tolerant and accepting of different cultures.

Look for the good in people and you will surely find it....

as a white girl with thin hair, i can honestly say, do what? i have never heard of this. could be a style thing or it could be you hang with the wrong crowd. i have a cousin with hair that is more wiry, curly and thick than anyone i know, white or black. she loves her hair so more power to her. accept yourself and your hair. good luck.

I look down on rediculous purple or yellow braids and weaves my people be havin.
