How to achieve wavy hair (for African American hair)?

I am transitioning (meaning I am slowly getting rid of my permed ends, and the rest of my hair is natural.)

I have a good hair texture, but I don't know what products I can use to achieve the "waves" in the front like this:

I have used hair mayonnaise and it works, but i was hoping there were other products because i have to use a lot of the hair mayonnaise to achieve that effect and it is too thick to wash out.

How to achieve wavy hair (for African American hair)?

I had the same prob and wat I used was mousse and waved it while I put the mousse in then use a bunch of sheen to keep it still!!

It worked for me =D
