It's very good for African American hair, apparently. Here is a discussion about peppermint oil and how to use it:

I am not african american, but I watch alot of hairstyle shows.

They say adding oil to african american hair can make it greasy since their hair produces a lot of natural oils.

So, it wont dry it out.

But it might look a little greasy.

yes it is good, it is suppose to stimulate growth (i say suppose to because some people want a way to make their hair grow faster, but your hair growth is determined by genetics. the peppermint oil just makes sure it grows at the rate genetics allows it)...i don't use it but my cousin does
